My family and I are finally going to move within the next couple of weeks. I am afraid to pack up all of my alyns and have them be moved across country, so all of the alyns in my shop right now are currently 25% off. The prices they are at now reflect the sale.

New Alyns

Hello!! Well, finally, clay was onsale at JoAnn's when I had money to buy some. I bought seven packages, and I only have one pack left! I made over forty new alyns yesterday and three new ones today. Mom had me make 30 for her to send out with the bags she sells. I am hopeful that with all of the alyns I have sent out for 'promotion' that I will attract more people to my shop.

I am also attempting at finding new backgrounds for my alyns. I like to have a plain, white background, but I decided that was getting a bit repetitive and I really wanted something new for my alyns. I photographed Xavier on a book (in blog pic) and I am happy with the way it came out. I'm trying to find some more new, interesting backgrounds that aren't too distracting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Keep checking my shop all this week, I will try to list a new alyn every day.

Also!! I will be gone from Friday the 7th to Sunday the 16th. We will be in Massachusetts on a house hunting trip! I am so excited and I am going to bring some alyns to show my grandmothers. I can't wait until I get home, though. We will have been in a hotel for over a week.

So I really wanted to keep this blog updated, but I have had no alyn news lately! I am curious if I should start blogging every once in awhile on here just to keep people updated. I think that would be a good addition to this page. Maybe every month or so?

School has been going very well for me. The first quarter just ended and I am very pleased with my grades, and I think my teachers are too. :D My grade in English was so good that my teacher gave me a copy of a book of poems she wrote on desert animals. It's a coloring book (which I may be a bit old for? idk), but I still plan on coloring in all of the animals my teacher's mother illustrated.

Hmm, what else. Well, in my art class we have started felting. I was so looking forward to this part of the year! We started out with making felt balls. My friend and I had a pretty funny yet painful time making them. The needles you use to compact the wool are very sharp even if they don't appear to be that way. The needles also caused some frustration which resulted in my teacher yelling "WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!!" every couple of minutes.

Another one of my friends (I guess you could call her my best public school friend?) gave me some sad news today. Her mom is really sick of Vegas, and they might have to move really soon. I know we'll be moving soon, too, but I sort of which my friend would stay just a bit longer. I think I'll miss having her around, especially since she is really cool and I've only known her since the beginning of school. :(

Hi! Sorry that I have not posted in so long. I haven't really been making any new alyns because I've needed to buy other things rather than clay. =P School has been going well for me and the weekends are the worst part of the week because I just want to go back to school! Some of the students have been inspiring alyns designs, which I will work on when I get more clay. Hope everyone is doing well!

Survey, School and New Alyns

Hi! I just wanted to post a quick blog to talk about a couple of things. First off, we're finally home from our camping trip. Today I bought 10 new packs of Fimo clay, but sadly two were too dry to use. :( But with the remaining eight packages I am working on new alyns to put into my shops. Also, my baby alyns are going to make their debut into our Etsy shop very soon!

As for the school part of this entry, school starts for me on August 25th. I will probably not be posting a lot in my blog during the week, but I am hopeful that I will be able to post and make new alyns on the weekends. Although I am looking forward to school, I am a bit sad that I won't have as much time as I wanted to work on the alyn business.

And last but not least... Survey! Brooke Medlin on etsy (view her shop here) has created an survey for people on Etsy to take. I think it will be interesting to see the results. You can take the survey here.

Tiny Alyns and Custom Orders

Hi! I just wanted to post to introduce my newest creations: baby alyns! I have made some that are about the size of a quarter. But also there are some that fit right on a penny. I'm going to be making them to sell in my shop soon, and I am also going to try to figure out how to make them into pendants.

Also, I am thinking about doing custom orders. Basically, you can pick what alyn species you want, what colors you want, what size you want and if you want any add ons (like a hat, cape, GameBoy, etc.). I'm not sure if I can do custom species yet since the ideas for the species come a bit slower than ideas for actual alyns. :D

I suppose that is it for now. I will update asap! =P

Working Area

I've never been a very organized person. Ever. My room is almost always a mess, and when I clean it, it only stays that way for about two days. My friend often complains about how 'messy' his room is, and I just laugh. I end up taking pictures to show him what messy really is, and he often says in disgust "I have no idea how you can stand that, you need to clean!" So after both my mom and friend told me that I really should clean my desk, I gave in. So my desk went from this:

Of course, it couldn't be totally cleared off because I wanted my alyns with me. I found a tote/shelf thing that I found on top of my dresser (I completely forgot I had it!) and it's organized so that: unopened clay goes in the top drawer, opened clay goes in the middle, and the bottom drawer is filled with random craft supplies.

I am also preparing myself for a whole week without clay when we go camping next week. Although it may seem like nothing, my fingers are really addicted to making things! When I go without clay my fingers start to have withdrawals. I've also been putting together playlists on iTunes and I am going to burn CDs for my trip so I don't have to listen to toddler music the whole time.

The Groovy Trio

Meet Lewis (green), Neli (yellow), and Roxy (pink)! This trio is groovy, colorful and musical. Lewis, from the planet of Zisral, likes to play the keyboard and sing. Neli, from the planet of Glusteon, is in charge of singing and she has quite the set of pipes. Roxy, from Bopron, likes to rock out on the drums and back up Lewis’ keyboard beats.

Jasper the Traveling Alyn

Meet Jasper, an alyn who likes to travel the galaxy! He may be old, but he is young at heart. As soon as his parents let him, Jasper left his home planet of Bopron to find new and exciting treasures from planets all over the universe. He acquired his shell from a magical alyn who told him it would take him to many new places. The shell has traveled with him everywhere and serves as a home, storage area and traveling device. Jasper dreams about the new things left to discover on regular basis and can’t wait for what he may find next.

Recycling

I've always been a very crafty kid. I like to make things for myself and a lot of the gifts I give are also handmade. So now with the prices of gas and the prices of every day things, sometimes you have to figure out how to do things for yourself to save yourself money (or in this case--save my parents money and time). Since I am going to highschool in the fall and I feel like I have to kind of... well, build my own image, style is becoming very important to me.

So since I don't have the money to buy myself a whole bunch of new clothes, I decided to sit down and think of some of the things I could make or have mom help me make. Last night I started working on a scarf out of fabric scraps. Mom has a lot of them that I was able to pick from and I eventually found squares that worked. I also wanted to make armwarmers, so mom made a pair of those for me out of colorful knit fabric.

Mom is also making me a skirt and a t-shirt that I will be able to wear to school. (Thanks Mom!) Before, I wanted to fit in with the rest of the kids. However, I think it's more important to have your own style, and while you're at it--using as many things as you have already. I'm going to sew fabric patches to pairs of pants and shirts to spice them up a little bit. Now that I look around, it seems very easy to use what I have. Plus, recycling is fun! You can draw or sew onto an old shirt and it will make it feel like new.

Lydia is very artistic and likes to make things for her little sister. Violet likes to surprise Lydia with pretend creations and has quite the imagination.

Meet Lloyd, a sarcastic alyn with tons of tons of sass and class. He’s quite charismatic and sparkles like no other. Everywhere he goes, a group of giggly female alyns follow. I guess you could call him a celebrity of his planet (Glusteon). He truly believes he owns the streets of Glusteon!

The Bosses

My alyns live in on two separate planets, Bopron and Glusteon. To identify where an alyn is from, you simply have to look at their shape. The most common alyns from Bopron are flat, have two long tentacles and one eye. Alyns from Glusteon often have three eyes, no tentacles and could be compared to a slug. They have a tail that pushes them along. Occasionally, though, you find an odd alyn that is from an unknown planet (like Cori).

Alyns live in communities and neighborhoods, just like people do. They have their own personalities, beliefs, and traditions. So just like us, they need to have some authority. The two alyns you see pictured are the Bosses. They look over the alyns to make sure that everyone is happy, and if someone isn't, then they try to fix that. Yar is the alyn that has two tentacles and he is the Boss of Bopron. Taji is the other alyn you see. She is the boss of Glusteon.

Yar is old, wise, and spends a lot of time making the right decisions for his community. No one is quite sure how long he has been Boss, because he has kept the planet happy for so long that everybody is pleased with his work. Yar likes to study the stars, tell legends to the curious alyn children, and make up new and exciting food recipes to feed to his family.

Taji is a considerably new Boss. She has served a term just a bit over 100 years. She is young, exciting and enjoys getting the planet of Glusteon up on their tails and encourage them to enjoy life. Not only is she fun, but she makes sure everything about Glusteon is perfect for the alyns. She can be serious when she needs to, but mostly likes having fun. Taji enjoys exploring the wilderness with alyns of all ages, showing off her gorgeous colors and watching plays at the theater in Glusteon.

Taji and Yar are just two more alyns that add to the exciting worlds of Glusteon and Bopron.

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Avarie, and I am the creator of the alyns you see on Etsy and on my flickr. The word "alyn" is a chatspeak version of "alien" that my friend and I made up while watching a movie. While watching the movie I had some clay with me and began sculpting my first alyn, Tai. He is the alyn you see to the left!
